{"abstract":"NMFS issues a final rule to allow use of pot gear in waters around Cape Barnabas and Caton Island located in the Gulf of Alaska (GOA) for directed fishing for Pacific cod. Waters within 3 nautical miles (nm) of these sites currently are closed to Pacific cod fishing by vessels using pot gear and named on a Federal fisheries permit. This action is necessary to provide consistency between State and Federal fishing restrictions and to relieve a potential burden on the Pacific cod pot gear fishing sector. This final rule is intended to meet the objectives in the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (Magnuson-Stevens Act) and to further the goals and objectives of the Fishery Management Plan for Groundfish of the Gulf of Alaska (FMP).","action":"Final rule.","agencies":[{"raw_name":"DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE","name":"Commerce Department","id":54,"url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/agencies/commerce-department","json_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/api/v1/agencies/54","parent_id":null,"slug":"commerce-department"},{"raw_name":"National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration","name":"National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration","id":361,"url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/agencies/national-oceanic-and-atmospheric-administration","json_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/api/v1/agencies/361","parent_id":54,"slug":"national-oceanic-and-atmospheric-administration"}],"body_html_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/full_text/html/2003/05/28/03-13275.html","cfr_references":[{"chapter":null,"citation_url":null,"part":679,"title":50}],"citation":"68 FR 31629","comment_url":null,"comments_close_on":null,"correction_of":null,"corrections":[],"dates":"Effective June 27, 2003.","disposition_notes":null,"docket_ids":["Docket No. 030128021-3124-02","I.D. 121602A"],"dockets":[],"document_number":"03-13275","effective_on":"2003-06-27","end_page":31640,"executive_order_notes":null,"executive_order_number":null,"full_text_xml_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/full_text/xml/2003/05/28/03-13275.xml","html_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2003/05/28/03-13275/fisheries-of-the-exclusive-economic-zone-off-alaska-opening-waters-to-pacific-cod-pot-fishing-off","images":{},"images_metadata":{},"json_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/api/v1/documents/03-13275?publication_date=2003-05-28","mods_url":"https://www.govinfo.gov/metadata/granule/FR-2003-05-28/03-13275/mods.xml","not_received_for_publication":null,"page_length":12,"page_views":{"count":29,"last_updated":"2026-08-26 20:15:05 -0400"},"pdf_url":"https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2003-05-28/pdf/03-13275.pdf","presidential_document_number":null,"proclamation_number":null,"public_inspection_pdf_url":null,"publication_date":"2003-05-28","raw_text_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/full_text/text/2003/05/28/03-13275.txt","regulation_id_number_info":{},"regulation_id_numbers":[],"regulations_dot_gov_info":{},"regulations_dot_gov_url":null,"significant":null,"signing_date":null,"start_page":31629,"subtype":null,"title":"Fisheries of the Exclusive Economic Zone Off Alaska; Opening Waters to Pacific Cod Pot Fishing off Cape Barnabas and Caton Island","toc_doc":"Pacific cod","toc_subject":"Fishery conservation and management:","topics":["Alaska","Fisheries"],"type":"Rule","volume":68}
