{"abstract":"The FAA proposes to supersede an existing airworthiness directive (AD) for certain McDonnell Douglas series airplanes. That AD currently requires repetitive inspections of the electrical connectors of the explosive cartridge wiring of the engine fire extinguisher containers to verify if the identification number labels are installed and legible; repetitive electrical tests of all explosive cartridge wiring of the engine fire extinguisher containers to verify proper installation and function; and corrective actions if necessary. This proposed AD would also require an inspection of the emergency shut off wire assembly; installation of lanyards on the electrical connectors for the engine fire extinguishing agent containers and for the auxiliary power unit fire extinguishing agent containers if applicable; and related investigative/corrective actions, as applicable. This proposed AD is prompted by reports of cross-wired electrical connectors of the engine fire extinguishing agent containers. We are proposing this AD to detect and correct cross-wired electrical connectors of the fire extinguishing system, which could release fire extinguishing agent into the incorrect engine nacelle in the event of an engine fire.","action":"Notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM).","agencies":[{"raw_name":"DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION","name":"Transportation Department","id":492,"url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/agencies/transportation-department","json_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/api/v1/agencies/492","parent_id":null,"slug":"transportation-department"},{"raw_name":"Federal Aviation Administration","name":"Federal Aviation Administration","id":159,"url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/agencies/federal-aviation-administration","json_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/api/v1/agencies/159","parent_id":492,"slug":"federal-aviation-administration"}],"body_html_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/full_text/html/2005/01/28/05-1588.html","cfr_references":[{"chapter":null,"citation_url":null,"part":39,"title":14}],"citation":"70 FR 4055","comment_url":null,"comments_close_on":"2005-03-14","correction_of":null,"corrections":[],"dates":"We must receive comments on this proposed AD by March 14, 2005.","disposition_notes":null,"docket_ids":["Docket No. FAA-2005-20135","Directorate Identifier 2003-NM-231-AD"],"dockets":[],"document_number":"05-1588","effective_on":null,"end_page":4058,"executive_order_notes":null,"executive_order_number":null,"full_text_xml_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/full_text/xml/2005/01/28/05-1588.xml","html_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2005/01/28/05-1588/airworthiness-directives-mcdonnell-douglas-model-dc-8-33-and--43-airplanes-model-dc-8f-54-and","images":{},"images_metadata":{},"json_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/api/v1/documents/05-1588?publication_date=2005-01-28","mods_url":"https://www.govinfo.gov/metadata/granule/FR-2005-01-28/05-1588/mods.xml","not_received_for_publication":null,"page_length":4,"page_views":{"count":57,"last_updated":"2026-08-24 18:15:04 -0400"},"pdf_url":"https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2005-01-28/pdf/05-1588.pdf","presidential_document_number":null,"proclamation_number":null,"public_inspection_pdf_url":null,"publication_date":"2005-01-28","raw_text_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/full_text/text/2005/01/28/05-1588.txt","regulation_id_number_info":{"2120-AA64":{"issue":"202410","html_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/regulations/2120-AA64/airworthiness-directives","title":"Airworthiness Directives","xml_url":"http://www.reginfo.gov/public/do/eAgendaViewRule?pubId=202410&RIN=2120-AA64&operation=OPERATION_EXPORT_XML","priority_category":"Routine and Frequent"}},"regulation_id_numbers":["2120-AA64"],"regulations_dot_gov_info":{"checked_regulationsdotgov_at":"2011-11-12T15:03:29Z"},"regulations_dot_gov_url":null,"significant":false,"signing_date":null,"start_page":4055,"subtype":null,"title":"Airworthiness Directives; McDonnell Douglas Model DC-8-33 and -43 Airplanes; Model DC-8F-54 and DC-8F-55 Airplanes; and Model DC-8-50, -60, -60F, -70, and -70F Series Airplanes","toc_doc":"McDonnell Douglas","toc_subject":"Airworthiness directives:","topics":["Air transportation","Aircraft","Aviation safety","Safety"],"type":"Proposed Rule","volume":70}
