{"abstract":"This proposed regulation would amend the \"Guidelines Establishing Test Procedures for the Analysis of Pollutants\" under section 304(h) of the Clean Water Act (CWA), by adding analytical test procedures for enumerating the bacteria, Escherichia coli (E. coli) and enterococci, in wastewater; and by adding analytical test procedures for enumerating fecal coliforms and Salmonella in sewage sludge to the list of Agency-approved methods. Specifically, EPA is proposing both membrane filter (MF) and multiple-tube fermentation (MTF, i.e., multiple-tube, multiple-well) methods for E. coli and enterococci bacteria in wastewater, and MTF methods for fecal coliforms and Salmonella in sewage sludge.
