{"abstract":"The FAA proposes to supersede two existing airworthiness directives (AD) for certain Boeing transport category airplanes. One AD currently requires doing certain inspections to detect cracks and corrosion around the lower bearing of the actuator attach fittings of the inboard and outboard flaps; repairing if necessary; and either overhauling the fittings or replacing them, which when done on certain actuator attach fittings ends the repetitive inspections. The other AD currently requires certain other inspections to detect discrepancies of the fittings of the flaps, and follow-on and corrective actions if necessary, which ends the repetitive inspections of the first AD. For certain airplanes, this proposed AD would require new inspections for discrepancies of the attach fittings of the flaps, and follow-on and corrective actions if necessary, which ends the repetitive inspections of both existing ADs. For all airplanes, this proposed AD would require repetitive overhaul/replacements of the fittings of both the inboard and outboard flaps. This proposed AD is prompted by reports of cracks of the attach fittings of the trailing edge flaps. We are proposing this AD to prevent cracking and other damage of the actuator attach fittings of the trailing edge flaps, which could result in abnormal operation or retraction of a trailing edge flap, and possible loss of controllability of the airplane.","action":"Notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM).","agencies":[{"raw_name":"DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION","name":"Transportation Department","id":492,"url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/agencies/transportation-department","json_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/api/v1/agencies/492","parent_id":null,"slug":"transportation-department"},{"raw_name":"Federal Aviation Administration","name":"Federal Aviation Administration","id":159,"url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/agencies/federal-aviation-administration","json_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/api/v1/agencies/159","parent_id":492,"slug":"federal-aviation-administration"}],"body_html_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/full_text/html/2005/04/13/05-7380.html","cfr_references":[{"chapter":null,"citation_url":null,"part":39,"title":14}],"citation":"70 FR 19345","comment_url":null,"comments_close_on":"2005-05-31","correction_of":null,"corrections":[],"dates":"We must receive comments on this proposed AD by May 31, 2005.","disposition_notes":null,"docket_ids":["Docket No. FAA-2005-20917","Directorate Identifier 2004-NM-85-AD"],"dockets":[],"document_number":"05-7380","effective_on":null,"end_page":19351,"executive_order_notes":null,"executive_order_number":null,"explanation":null,"full_text_xml_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/full_text/xml/2005/04/13/05-7380.xml","html_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2005/04/13/05-7380/airworthiness-directives-boeing-model-747-100--200b--200f--200c--100b--300--100b-sud--400--400d-and","images":{},"images_metadata":{},"json_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/api/v1/documents/05-7380?publication_date=2005-04-13","mods_url":"https://www.govinfo.gov/metadata/granule/FR-2005-04-13/05-7380/mods.xml","not_received_for_publication":null,"page_length":7,"page_views":{"count":50,"last_updated":"2026-04-04 10:15:04 -0400"},"pdf_url":"https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2005-04-13/pdf/05-7380.pdf","presidential_document_number":null,"proclamation_number":null,"public_inspection_pdf_url":null,"publication_date":"2005-04-13","raw_text_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/full_text/text/2005/04/13/05-7380.txt","regulation_id_number_info":{"2120-AA64":{"issue":"202410","html_url":"https://www.federalregister.gov/regulations/2120-AA64/airworthiness-directives","title":"Airworthiness Directives","xml_url":"http://www.reginfo.gov/public/do/eAgendaViewRule?pubId=202410&RIN=2120-AA64&operation=OPERATION_EXPORT_XML","priority_category":"Routine and Frequent"}},"regulation_id_numbers":["2120-AA64"],"regulations_dot_gov_info":{"checked_regulationsdotgov_at":"2011-11-12T15:53:18Z"},"regulations_dot_gov_url":null,"significant":false,"signing_date":null,"start_page":19345,"subtype":null,"title":"Airworthiness Directives; Boeing Model 747-100, -200B, -200F, -200C, -100B, -300, -100B SUD, -400, -400D, and -400F Series Airplanes; and Model 747SR Series Airplanes","toc_doc":"Boeing","toc_subject":"Airworthiness directives:","topics":["Air transportation","Aircraft","Aviation safety","Safety"],"type":"Proposed Rule","volume":70}
