{"abstract":"This notice proposes to extend Standard No. 214's dynamic side impact protection requirements to multipurpose passenger vehicles, trucks and buses with a gross vehicle weight rating of 8,500 pounds or less and an unloaded vehicle weight of 5,500 pounds or less. These proposed amendments would require that each of these vehicles must protect its occupants in a full-scale dynamic crash test in which the vehicle is struck on either side by a moving deformable barrier simulating another vehicle. The occupants would be represented by instrumented test dummies. The dummies would be positioned in the target vehicle to measure the potential for injuries to an occupant's thorax and pelvis.
