{"abstract":"The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is amending its regulations on financial assurance requirements for the decommissioning of nuclear power plants. The amendments respond to the potential rate deregulation in the power generating industry and NRC concerns regarding whether current NRC decommissioning funding assurance requirements will need to be modified. The amendment requires power reactor licensees to report periodically on the status of their decommissioning funds, and on changes in their external trust agreements and other financial assurance mechanisms.
