Notice.

SUMMARY:

EPA is announcing a public technical briefing for October 3, 2001, to further the public discussion on the methods and data proposed for use in the organophosphate pesticide cumulative exposure assessment for drinking water. The briefing will update stakeholders on the probabilistic method proposed for use in the drinking water assessment, the methods for estimating exposures to be used in the probabilistic assessment, and the data required by those methods. The Agency will provide preliminary data on usage and use patterns for stakeholder review.

DATES:

The technical briefing will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2001, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Thursday, October 4, 2001, from 9 a.m. to noon, EPA and USDA will hold a public meeting of the CARAT Workgroup on Cumulative Risk Assessment/Public Participation Process to discuss issues and questions regarding drinking water as a follow-up to the technical briefing.

I. Does this Action Apply to Me?

This action is directed to the public in general. This action may, however, be of interest to persons who are concerned about implementation of the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA). Passed in 1996, this law strengthens the nation's system for regulating pesticides on food. Participants may include environmental/public interest and consumer groups; industry and trade associations; pesticide user and grower groups; Federal, State, and local governments; food processors; academia; general public; etc. Since others may also be interested, the Agency has not attempted to describe all the specific entities that may be affected by this action. If you have any questions regarding the applicability of this action to a particular entity, consult the technical person listed under FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT.

This meeting is open to the public. Outside statements by observers are welcome. These statements will become part of the permanent record and will be available for public inspection at the address listed in Unit II.
