Description: The information collection requirements specified in the 1,2-Dibromo-3-Chloropropane (DBCP) Standard protect employees from the adverse health effects that may result from their exposure to DBCP. The Standard requires employers to: Monitor employees' exposure to 1,2-Dibromo-3-Chloropropane; monitor employee health; and medical records; and provide employees with information about their exposures and health effects of exposure to DBCP.
After extensive research, OSHA found no U.S. employer who currently produces DBCP or DBCP-based end-use products; therefore, no cost or time burdens accrue to employers under the Standard. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registered DBCP as a soil fumigant for controlling nematodes during growth of field crops, vegetables, fruits and nuts, greenhouse and nursery crops, and turf. In 1977, the EPA suspended all registration of DBCP-based end-use products, except fumigants for Hawaiian pineapples; EPA revoked this exception in 1985.Start Signature
