Food safety is a scientific discipline describing the handling, preparation, packaging, labeling, and storage of food in ways that prevent food-borne illness. Various agencies of the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture, such as the Food and Drug Administration and the Food Safety and Inspection Service are principally responsible for food safety in the U.S. This search also includes other agencies with related responsibilities for preventing food illness, such as the Environmental Protection Agency.
