Radio & Television Broadcasting Services

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and its Media Bureau regulate broadcast radio and television stations. The Audio Division of the Media Bureau licenses commercial and noncommercial educational AM, FM, FM Translator, and FM Booster radio services, and also the noncommercial educational Low Power FM radio service. The Video Division licenses commercial and noncommercial educational TV, Low Power TV, Class A TV, TV translators and TV Booster broadcast services. Licensing activities include legal and technical analysis of applications, and appropriate disposition of applications, requests for waivers and other pleadings. The FCC's radio and television broadcasting regulations appear in 47 CFR part 97.
