Documents and Receipts Acceptable for Employment Eligibility Verification


This final rule adopts as final, without change, an interim rule published on December 17, 2008, by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at 73 FR 76505 (with a correction published on Jan. 16, 2009, at 74 FR 2838) that amends the regulations governing the types of acceptable identity and employment authorization documents and receipts that employees may present to employers for completion of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. Under the interim rule, employers could no longer accept expired documents. The interim rule also added a new document to the list of acceptable documents that evidence both identity and employment authorization and made several technical corrections and updates.
